NATIONAL STRATEGY FOR SMART CITIES
At the initiative of the Secretary of Government and the Sub Management of Digital Transformation of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers PCM-SGTD, the National Smart Cities Strategy was designed and developed, which is led by the technical team of the PCM-SGTD, in collaboration with a group of volunteer specialists and members of the ENCI committee; The proposals for the implementation of smart cities will be elaborated in accordance with the Axes, Objectives and Strategic Actions defined by the Committee of Experts on Smart Cities.
Martin Sarango Aguila, Smart Cities Leader and IDB-PCM consultant, will supervise the implementation proposal of the National Smart Cities Strategy, which is financed through a Loan Agreement signed by Peru and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
According to data published by the National Center for Strategic Planning (Ceplan), it is expected that by 2030, investment in the Internet of Things - IoT worldwide will exceed 7,940 billion dollars, encompassing sectors such as commerce, smart cities, human health and industries.
The Peruvian Ministry of Production has been promoting the use of IoT in SMEs through virtual events, with the aim of contributing to its development and making companies aware of its importance and the advantages it can provide before making investment decisions. The impact of IOT will depend on its level of adaptation and the governance system that supports it.
According to the Telecommunications Private Investment Supervisory Body (Osiptel), by 2025, an investment of 18 billion soles is needed, both at public and private level, to ensure the quality of telecommunications service broadcasting in Peru.
The development of 5G in Peru is essential, as it will help consolidate the completion of connectivity gaps, due to the fact that demand will be much stronger, requesting more and better telecommunications services. By the end of 2024, the Executive President of OSIPTEL, Rafael Muente, states that Peru will have around 4 million fixed internet connections, which will allow enhancing the capacity for development, growth and welfare of the person.

In the first quarter of 2023, connectivity in Peru grew by 5%, as well as the presence of fiber optic outside Lima, according to the Supervisory Body of Private Investment in Telecommunications - OSIPTEL.
